October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when healthcare experts share messages about the importance of breast cancer screenings, along with education about risk factors and symptoms.
Of course, breast cancer doesn’t only matter in October, breast cancer affects patients and their families all year long. This is especially true for the 250,000 new breast cancer diagnoses each year in the United States. In fact, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women, with only skin cancer being more common.
One in 8 women born in the U.S. today will get breast cancer at some point in their lives. But it’s also very important to note that 3.1 million U.S. women are alive today with a history of breast cancer. In other words, survival rates are improving all the time!
