The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as ‘Giving Tuesday’ and serves as a kickoff to the holiday season by first recognizing how we can help others. Of course, giving doesn’t have to be limited to just one day a year. BioPlus works with our non-profit charity partner, OneWorld Health, all year long to support their mission of providing quality, affordable care to communities in need.
This all starts with the ‘Power of 2’ at BioPlus, which represents our 2 hour, 2 day, 2 click promise to our patients and providers that they can count on ‘fast and easy’ through every specialty medication referral, fill, and refill. Then, for every referral we receive, BioPlus donates one life-saving antibiotic to OneWorld Health.
We’ve been impressed with the work of OneWorld Health, but even moreso in the challenging year of 2020. At a time when doors have been shutting down around the world, OneWorld Health has remained open, helping people in their local communities. With the support of BioPlus and other partners, OneWorld Health has been able to continue working through this pandemic and even expanding to meet the growing needs in the communities they serve. Since OneWorld Health was first established, all of their medical centers either have become self-sustaining, or are on track to do so, in 18 to 24 months. And over the years, OneWorld Health has provided care to more than 400,000 patients in Nicaragua and Uganda.
OneWorld Health’s healthcare delivery has needed to adapt in this year of Covid-19, which they did in vulnerable communities by:
- Rolling out a telehealth platform
- Providing online Covid-19 screening tools
- Developing a prescription drug delivery program
- Creating a public health Covid-19 campaign reaching over 250,000 people across Nicaragua
