On the heels of new, comprehensive pharmacy accreditation and regulatory compliance standards introduced in late 2019, the Company reinforces its commitment to quality and compliance.
As 2019 heads toward a close, pharmacy accreditation and compliance agencies are rolling out new, more granular standards aimed at ensuring and documenting the safest possible patient experiences. URAC version 4.0 and USP’s new requirements were released recently, prompting many pharmacies to hurriedly try to adopt and update compliance processes.
Compliance within the healthcare industry is essential to a company’s successful service of patients and prescribers. For 30 years, BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy (BioPlus), the first and only specialty pharmacy to back up ‘fast and easy’ with a 2 Hour, 2 Day, and 2 Click promise, has built compliance best practices into its operations. To stay at the forefront of compliance best practices, BioPlus has hired Brian Cherico as its Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer.
Known as a “compliance subject matter expert” by colleagues, Brian has nearly two decades of background in developing, interpreting, overseeing, and educating healthcare organizations on compliance and regulatory programs that abide by state, federal, and other accreditation agencies. And, more importantly, Brian has made a longstanding career out of helping to improve patients’ lives.
“As specialty medications and therapy management continue to get more complex, there is a call to continuously and proactively focus on meeting the highest industry compliance standards possible,” said Elvin Montanez, Pharm.D., Chief Operations Officer at BioPlus. “Patients and providers trust BioPlus because we have answered that call. By engaging Brian as our chief compliance officer, we can continue to raise the bar in our compliance and regulatory processes and programs, support safe, equitable patient access to the specialty medications and services they need most, and set an example as the industry leader in this area.”
“In addition to Brian’s industry experience, he has been a dedicated healthcare advocate and consultant, advising companies, including BioPlus, on regulatory considerations and internal work plans,” added Stephen Vogt, Pharm.D., CEO of BioPlus. “As a result of Brian’s close relationship and partnership with our BioPlus Compliance Committee, he already understands the BioPlus culture, values, and most importantly, our focus on enriching the lives of our patients.”
